Sustainability is not new. The best architecture withstands the test of time. It can outlive its original use, be transformed, reused or just renovated. As architects in an ever changing world, it is essential to understand the elements that make a building and their infrastructure sustainable. From his beginnings, with his time at multi-disciplinary practices working in close collaboration with leading environmental and structural engineers, designing buildings, their infrastructure and their environment which have resilience, has always been at the heart of Jean Francois Koenig’s beliefs to strive for excellence in sustainability.
The building for the Mauritius Commercial Bank was the first in the Southern Hemisphere to obtain a certificate for a sustainable development from the British Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM).
Jean Francois Koenig is a founder member of the Mauritius Green Building Council.
