Ruisseau Hortensia
Les Salines, Mauritius
2004-2011

At a time when all sea front developments around Mauritius are in high demand and of high density, the master plan for this plot of land in front of family owned bungalows giving onto a beach, proposed in contradiction to financial logic, a very low density development designed to provide minimal impact on the environment.

The solution proposed seven houses 40 to 50 m apart stretched out along the beach front and nestled in trees. The access road at the back of the houses is a two wheel track with bypass waiting bays.

The project is fully booked and has been a financial success. It gives credence to the luxury of space whereby, in this case, the luxury is more the space between the buildings rather than the buildings themselves.
