The vaults of this old sugar factory are built with clay pots used as permanent shuttering to its non-reinforced concrete roof. It was first converted in the 1970’s but never lived in permanently. With a new owner, a major extension and conversion was necessary to turn it into a proper family home. Without touching the existing spirit of the place, new vaults were added with a swimming pool set within the existing vegetation linking the old and the new. Once complete, no distinction can be made between the existing and the new extensions giving a timeless quality to the place. A full master plan of the whole premises was made.
