Mahebourg is the first and oldest town settlement in Mauritius. The town was planned by French settlers with a typically rectangular street plan. It contained domestic scaled buildings with timber shingled roofs. The new addition to the existing flat roofed modernist building of the 60’s makes a return to the older more traditional architecture of the town.
