Four similar houses were built using an adapted version of the small traditional house of Mauritius. The verandah takes up one third of the total area of the house. Roll up raffia blinds control light, wind and privacy, making the verandah, a transition space between outside and inside, the most lived in space in a tropical climate. The corrugated iron roof is lined internally with ravenal for improved insulation.
