House at Mon Choisy
Mauritius
2007

Built on large grounds and designed like a barn, the house is a simple shape with large overhangs on thick walls for good insulation and good sun and rain protection. An upper floor in the roof acts as a large utility space as well as an air buffer to improve the insulation properties of the house. Continuous air intake gaps at the lower eaves and continuous ridge ventilators at the apex helps to ventilate and cool the roof by natural means. A rectangular pool is placed in front of the verandah on a lawn which leads to a large pond. It is surrounded by a dense plantation of large trees where the owner can continue his special gift of entertaining relationships with birds in the wild.
